Ángeles Ruiz

 Ángeles Ruiz is a journalist, writer and gastronomic researcher. She is currently the coordinator of the Carmencita Chair of Taste Studies at the University of Alicante and works at the Mediterranean Gastronomy Centre Gasterra UA-Dénia.

She has an extensive professional career. She has worked as a journalist in the press (Información newspaper), radio (Cadena SER) and television (Canal 9). She is also a regular contributor to magazines and guides, working as a food critic. Ángeles Ruiz has dedicated more than a quarter of a century to writing about gastronomy in the Valencian Community.

Her first publications were “Vademecum de cocina de la Marina Baixa” and “Vademecum de cocina de la Marina Alta”, co-authored with Carlos Lorca.

She has directed and been part of the organisation of some of the most important gastronomic congresses in Spain, such as “Lo Mejor de la Gastronomía” in its editions in San Sebastián and Alicante. She has coordinated the participation of the Valencian Community in Madrid Fusión on numerous occasions and directed the gastronomic and cultural initiative “Elche con todos los Sentidos” (three editions) and the first edition of the “Alicante Gastronómica” Congress.

The Gastronomy Academy of the Valencian Community awarded her the “Gastronomic Publications and Communication Award” in 2018. She also received a special award for her professional career from the Gastrocinema film festival in 2024. She has also received two national “Emporia” awards (2019 and 2021) for two exhibitions she curated through the Carmencita Chair: “Spices: The Universe of Flavour” and “Menjars de la Terra. González Pomata’s Gastronomic Legacy”.
